About Muay Thai in Koh Samui
Muay Thai — "the art of eight limbs" — is Thailand's national sport, and watching it live in Koh Samui is one of the island's best evenings out beyond the beach. Each fight night opens with the traditional Wai Kru Ram Muay, a graceful ritual dance in which fighters pay respect to their teachers, before the bouts begin to the beat of live Sarama music.
Koh Samui's two stadiums both host genuine professional Muay Thai — full-contact bouts scored under real rules, not staged tourist shows — with a mix of local Thai and international fighters, including women's bouts on many cards. Live English commentary makes every round easy to follow, so it's a great night for complete first-timers, couples, and families alike. Many visitors pair the fights with dinner and drinks in nearby Chaweng.
The stadiums
Phetch Buncha Stadium — Mon · Wed · Sat · Chaweng. Koh Samui's oldest, largest, and only air-conditioned Muay Thai stadium, home to the "Samui Super Fight" card with male and female fighters from Thailand and abroad. Tickets from 1,500 THB.
Samui International Stadium — Tue · Fri · Sun · Chaweng. A high-energy stadium in the heart of Chaweng, known for its "East meets West" matchups pitting top Thai fighters against international challengers. Tickets from 1,500 THB, with standard, ringside, and VIP seating.
Getting there
Both of Koh Samui's Muay Thai stadiums are in the central Chaweng Beach area. The island has no public transport network, so the easiest way to the fights is a short taxi, Grab, or songthaew ride — roughly 15–20 minutes from Samui Airport, about 15 minutes from Lamai, and around 10–15 minutes from Bophut / Fisherman's Village.
